Why supporting Israel is important in the battle against Islamic terrorism
The world is engaged in a struggle against an enemy which seeks to destroy every shred of our proud culture; our freedom and democracies are under attack, as are our hard won social progress in areas such as women’s and gay rights. This enemy knows no mercy; it seeks to impose its totalitarian worldview on everyone, and kill anyone who does not comply, including co-religionists who are insufficiently fundamental in their interpretations and behavior.
Israel knows the nature of this beast; it has been fighting it for decades.
In fact this monster started rearing its ugly head even before Israel gained independence; it just got angrier at the refusal of this tiny nation to give in. The methods were different then; armies and tanks and planes, but the goal was the same: wipe the Jewish state off the map. There were no settlements then, no blockade, no checkpoints, yet the hatred still simmered and boiled.
Arise, o sons of Arabia. Fight for your sacred rights. Slaughter Jews wherever you find them. Their spilled blood pleases Allah, our history and religion. That will save our honor.
— Haj Amin al-Husseini, Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, 1944
Because it is, and has always been, religious. No non-Muslim state could be tolerated in what was previously part of the caliphate. Once Islamic, always Islamic – at least as far as the Muslim world was concerned. Therefore, Israel’s very existence is an affront to Islam.
Once the Arab nations realized Israel was unbeatable using conventional warfare, the Palestinians turned to terrorism. Under Yassir Arafat, Palestinian nationalists became increasingly fundamentalist in their religious practices – and thus more extreme in their politics. Palestinian media, schools, and mosques preach jihad as a matter of course, and the unabridged version at that: all Jews must be killed, not just Israelis, and Muslims will rule all of the land. Hamas’ charter states this very clearly:
Israel will rise and will remain erect until Islam eliminates it as it had eliminated its predecessors.
— ‘Preamble’ to the Hamas Charter
[Peace] initiatives, the so-called peaceful solutions, and the international conferences to resolve the Palestinian problem, are all contrary to the beliefs of the Islamic Resistance Movement. For renouncing any part of Palestine means renouncing part of the religion […]
There is no solution to the Palestinian problem except by Jihad.
— Article Thirteen, Hamas Charter
For decades Israel has been fighting these terrorists and their sympathizers, and the nation has paid a heavy price for this resistance. The blood of thousands has been spilled in defense of freedom, but Israelis battle on. They are hampered in their defense efforts by the UN and other international organizations and various governments who routinely castigate them and condemn them for fighting back. As a result, Hamas and Hezbollah among others remain undefeated as Israel is forced into meaningless ceasefire agreements which the terrorists always break.
Now, though, the scope has been widened. The whole world is in the crosshairs. Saudi Wahhabism has spread far and wide, creeping up on the unsuspecting West, and unleashing its horrors upon it. The Paris attackers and the Brussels bombers and the Palestinian stabbers are tentacles of the same beast. Our own security services regularly thwart plots to kill and maim British citizens, and we all support their efforts to protect us from harm, just as we supported French counterterrorism efforts following the attacks in Paris in November. Israel’s security services have a much greater challenge in combating the recent wave of attacks perpetrated daily by individuals; they are sudden and unpredictable, and very difficult to prevent.
A living, thriving Israel is a direct affront to the terrorists; a living testament to their failure to defeat it, and an insult the Muslim world. Eliminating Hamas would not only save many Israeli and Palestinian lives, it would also be a vital victory against Islamic terrorism and everything it stands for, so Israel must be freed from the shackles it has been forced into, by showing people what Hamas represents. Hamas shares its ideology with the likes of Daesh and Al Qaida and its methods are the same.
Israelis have been on the front lines for so long they have developed tactics and technologies which Europe and the US are increasingly taking advantage of. The country is a bulwark against the spread of violence and fanaticism in the region and the only safe place for Christians who are being persecuted everywhere else in the Middle East. If Israel is destroyed and its people eliminated, as is Hamas’ aim, the area will become another hotbed of terrorism just like Syria; not only would Hamas and other Palestinian factions be fighting each other, but Daesh would seize the opportunity to take control. Also like Syria, it is on Europe’s doorstep so the land would become another source of jihadis sent to attack Europe.
Let the world see democratic and free Israel deliver a resounding victory against totalitarian and oppressive Hamas and their ilk.
